Roofing in Bungay
Local roofers in Bungay
Bungay sits inside a great loop of the River Waveney, right on the Norfolk and Suffolk border, with the ruins of Bigod's Castle at its centre and the Common Lands running down to the water. Much of what you see in the town today went up after the fire of 1688, which is why so many of the frontages are Georgian, and why the roofs behind them are a run of clay pantile with parapet gutters and hidden valleys. It falls inside the NR postcodes, so despite being in Suffolk it is core territory for us.
Common roofing work in Bungay
Working here is mostly about age rather than exposure. The valley is sheltered, so we are rarely dealing with storm damage in the way we are on the coast. What we do see is old pantile that has slipped where the pegs or nails have finally gone, ridge and hip mortar that has done its eighty years and is now letting water past, and parapet gutters that were awkward to maintain when they were built and have not got easier. A lot of the town is listed or sits within the conservation area, so replacing like for like matters, and it is worth checking what is permitted before anything is stripped. We are used to that conversation and would rather have it early than halfway through.
